Yeah, yeah! What what? This is probably what CompuServe had in mind when they invented the gif.

Yes, this is as stupid as it sounds. It worked as advertised on my Dual G4 Quicksilver Mac. Save this text file to your Mac’s root directory. Then, on reboot, hold down Command+Option+O+F

You’ll see some funky text on your screen… mine was super tiny.

Then, type:

boot hd:\ofpong.txt

This makes use of Apple’s Open Firmware (hence the O+F) and runs the Pong program (which is coded in Forth) by parsing the text file in your root directory. Hooray for the geeks that thought of this one!

Control+Z to quit, then type ‘bye’ and press RETURN to reboot back into your MacOS.

Make the Starship Enterprise Out of a Floppy Disk!

This is amazing, and not only for the fact that someone thought this up. The real beauty is in the little pictures that accompany the instructions. They’re small, simple, and perfect!
My only complaint is that I don’t have floppies any more.
