Find out how (and more importantly, why)!

Sweetness! Dakira has kindly compiled an all-in-one GIMPshop 2.2.8 installer for Windows based on my slightly hacked GIMP 2.2.8 source.

Get the Windows installer – mirrored here at Plastic Bugs (7.5 MB)

I’m unable to test this installer until I get to work on Monday morning. Let me know if you run into any problems. Thanks!

yosha, same thing happens to me, and i have windows xp. i tried reinstalling the program 3+ times on the same computer and nothing is changed, it always crashes

sena, there are a lot of GIMP tutorials out there, and a lot of photoshop tutorials. they’re really similar to GIMPshop commands, so they should be okay (:

almunro, how long have you waited for the startup to finish? it usually hangs on fonts for the first few times i start it up (for about 2mins), but if i close all other windows and just let it hang, it eventually finishes starting up, and after a few times it’s faster and faster in starting up.

Has anyone figured out the problem with gimpshop 2.2.8 hanging at fonts? It will no progress beyond this point while loading. When I tried using 2.2.4 it gave me a memory error at the same place. The newer version doesn’t give me an error, it just hangs forever!

Nice and great work! But when I try to open File->Settings the message “gimp 2.x.x” has encountered a problem and needs to be closed.” I’ll watch your latest releases cause I’m desperately need a free image editor. Wish you all the best!

I think GIMP is cool but GIMPshop is better since we dont have to always have many application running on the taskbar and also its has made work more easier.

v2.2.8 seems to still be an issue for Windows so i’ll say stay with 2.2.4.

Scott, am a graphics designer but i wanna know how can I contribute to the GIMPshop project.

Thanks

i have used photshop at school many times and can use it well but i wanted a program at home. i googled best alternatives and this was voted #1. so i guessed it must be good. i installed it and then started the program. it has the “your personal gimpshop” orange thing that pops up with the file it created. when i click continue to start the program it says it cannot create gimpshop 2.2 i uninstalled and reinstalled and i get the same thing. i am very unfamiliar with this program so i do not know how to solve this problem. any help? ????

Hey, does anyone know where you can get a slightly older version of GIMPshop/Win32? 2.2.8 has several problems that I’m finding a pain in the rump to use. (Tell it to make a 8.5″x11″ new canvus, at 300 dpi, and watch it crash.) Also the Ubuntu/Deb version has a nasty bug in it. Ubuntu AND kubuntu copy won’t run from the menus. You have to type ‘gimp’ in a terminal for it to start.

I’m almost sure it’s GIMPshop doing it. Do the same with just standard classic GIMP and it works fine. Unless there’s something with GTK and Gimpshop.

Other than that, I find GIMPShop for Win and linux almost invaluable.
