I’ve got a pretty good domain name and now I need an idea for it. The domain is www.wintheinternet.com and I’m not exactly sure what to do with it.
Win The Internet
I had at first thought that an internet scavenger hunt would be fun to do. You’d be scored based on what sites you visited and things you did on the internet. For example, a visit to the official website of Snakes on a Plane would definitely garner some points, as would a trip to Bea Arthur’s IMDB profile. But if you Google or Technorati yourself, you lose points. Basically, do fun things on the internet and you get points, do stupid things on the internet and lose points. I thought a Firefox plugin could do this pretty easily and your score would be updated automatically.
But then, I realized that privacy would be a HUGE issue and didn’t want anyone to get freaked out that a Firefox plugin was tracking your internet browsing.
That said, I kind of think I have to scrap that idea. I hope you guys can think of something better. I know it’s lame to ask for help, but I’m sure someone out there can think of something better to do with this URL.

Come’on that’s an awesome idea and you can’t just scrap it like that!
Maybe you could have someone write a whole new browser from the mozilla engine, that screenshots each clicked link and saves it to a long JPEG.
And have it record times between each click action. > if they use more than 1 minute untill their next action, they lose points.
Also, if they alt-tab from your browser to another, (opera or IE) where they could search google, they lose points too..
Or is that too complicated?
I’m sure this could be turned into some sort of HORRIBLE tongue in cheek internet reality…something.
As for the original idea – it’s an interesting concept. Would there be a way to have it easily turned on and off, so the user can feel comfortable when visiting sites that have confidential information?
I see no problem with it. The only people that are truly concerned about “privacy” are those who are doing less than favourable things on the internet.
not necessarily evan – I don’t have any desire for others to be able to see me visting my bank, my email, etc., etc. Nothing to do with anything less than favourable, just a general concern for privacy and security.

I agree with this. If it could be a toggled extension to FF I think it would be a cool idea. Now you’d just need someone capable of writing such an extension, and ou’d also need to put forth scoring…
PS. Would I just flat-out win for visiting this site?
Man, it’s a nice thing you’re trying to do, but I can’t get used to gimp, it sucks too bad, specially for someone who’s using photoshop for almost 5 years.
Nice hack althou!
If you were to do that, how would you give out or – points for every website? Would just just do certain cool websites and certain uncool ones?
Put the content on the “Silent Protest” page on there… make a whole website about it.
You could use an imbeded web browser (like Bitty Browser.) that would log each site visited by each user. You could keep track with either registration info (username), or by ip. You wouldn’t have to worry about privacy issues then… just bandwidth.
I think you should put flamewar transcripts on wintheinternet, or allow people to post their own. You’d copy and paste some arguement, declare a winner, create a permalink and generate a nice blue ribbon image with an #id or something for people to link to.
slashdot_1: Windows rules!
slashdot_2: Linux rules!
SomeoneElse: Whatever guys. http://wintheinternet.com/winner/47823/
Where 47823 would be the entry that someone made about that flamewar, with a blue ribbon as if they’ve won some prize. The virtual cookie for the seemlingly endless debates on slashdot, digg, forums everywhere.
Perhaps it is too niche but that’s what popped into my head, like googlefight.
You could make a site where people could enter the url of their website, then it’s google page ranking would be tracked and there would be a list of “high scores” on the front page
I think that’s an awesome idea! I’m not really concerned about privacy. Plus, you don’t really have to post where each individual is going, but it can still generate points. So it would be almost anonymous, except for the machine handling the points. That would be cool. I would play
And …. !?.I got another one,www.myinternet.com.Doesnt sound much better.
I’m sorry, that I’ve used this message to ask the question, but had not found another way to contact you. Are you plan to do next releases of GimpShop, or you are already not interested in this project?
Yeah Scott, I agree this would be a fun concept. And I agree with you, a Firefox plug in would be easy. So how could you go about this? I think one person kinda mentioned snap shotting. You could do optional snap shotting, or a “SCORE MY ACTIVITY”. And then set a specific number of score claims to be made an hour!
Idea is dead. Blog is dead. Move along. Nothing to see here.
Run a lottery website and make lots $$$$
You should just have a sign in form that once your signed in to the web site you can use that web site as a browser. And then all of your web page views would be stored.
Have a symbol such as a sand mandalla. Each time someone signs in they receive a color symbol and become part of and ever emerging design. As the design grows it will take on a life of its own and at the same time it will symbolize the lives that create it, as people connect with the site. You can create posters from the designs, and have music that vibrates with the colors in the matrics of the design layers.
Have it record the pages on the computer only, and assure the user that the only thing being sent is the score.
That is a wicked domain! I see you’ve not really done anything with it, any plans?
???????? ????! ????? ????????? ????????? ???????? ???????.
I think it’s a good idea. Or maybe you could give away Internet service? Like a lottery or something. Sell service too. Maybe like an affiliate site or something but also giving away internet service to every one thousandth visitor or every hundredth person o sign up. IDK… Just an idea =)
Ya, roll with it! Maybe put a poll on the main page asking viewers?

Many ideas here that sound pretty good. I have a site myself that I could use an idea for. good luck! =)
Sounds like an interesting idea. I would play
